3 Big Signings Arsenal Can Make Before the Transfer Window Closes
Arsenal agonizingly missed out on the Premier League trophy last season finishing just two points behind eventual winners Manchester City. They would look to go one better this season in their bid to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City of their perch and win the first domestic league title since the invincible season of 2003-04.
Like every other club, the Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad in the ongoing summer transfer window. Let us look at the 3 big signings Arsenal can make before the transfer window closes.
Mikel Merino
Mikel Merino was Real Sociedad’s best player last season. He played in all of Spain’s 7 Euro 2024 matches this summer and famously scored the winner against Germany in the quarter-final to knock the hosts out of the tournament. Sociedad have reportedly offered a contract extension for the midfielder but Merino is yet to agree to an extension.

Arsenal are now eyeing making a move for Merino this summer. The 28-year-old would be a dream signing for Mikel Arteta given his dual-winning prowess. He won 168 aerial duels last season which was more than any other midfielder in Europe’s top five leagues. His partnership with Declan Rice and Martin Ordegaard (with whom he was a teammate at Real Sociedad in 2020) could be pivotal to giving Arsenal their first league title in a couple of decades.
Viktor Gyokeres
Viktor Gyökeres is a Swedish striker who plays for Sporting CP in Portugal. Last season, the 26-year-old set the Primeira Liga alight scoring 29 goals in 33 appearances. Gyökeres also has experience in English football having played for Brighton and Hove Albion for four seasons. He also had loan spells at Swansea City and Coventry City.
Gyokeres has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and the transfer now looks set to go ahead with Arsenal reportedly offering around £60m for the striker. Known for his incredible turn of pace and agility, Gyokeres will be keen to light up the Premier League with his goals if the move does end up going through.
Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen enjoyed a breakthrough season with Napoli last time out. The striker scored 15 goals and made 3 assists in 25 appearances last season in the Serie A. The 25-year-old is now looking for a fresh challenge in his career and has attracted offers from various clubs across Europe. PSG, Chelsea, and Arsenal have been linked with the Nigerian with the Gunners reportedly leading the race.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen the forward position this summer with Edward Nketiah set for a move away from the club and Gabriel Jesus not convincing last season. The signing of Osimhen will make Arsenal a team to beat and mount a serious title challenge again this season.
