Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 will start on 22 November at Optus Stadium in Perth. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will miss the first test of BGT due to the birth of his second child on Friday. However, he’ll join the squad for the second test which is a day-night test match at Adelaide starting on December 2.

Sharma conveyed his message to the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) that he’ll be available for the two-day pink-ball warmup match before the second test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He’ll play the warmup match against Australia Prime Minister’s XI starting from November 30.

India’s vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead the Indian side for the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah has led the Indian test team once against England in July 2022.

This BGT is important for the Indian team for the qualification of the World Test Championship final, unfortunately, India will miss the services of the skipper Rohit Sharma and the No.3 Shubam Gill as he’s suffering from a fractured thumb.

There’s no confirmation of the availability of KL Rahul for the first test as he received a blow on the elbow while batting in the intra-India squad match at WACA as he walked off the field but there were some positive signs as he came to bat on Sunday. Apart from batsmen, India will also miss their front-line pacer Mohammed Shami in the first test as he’s recovering from ankle surgery. He looked in good rhythm against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy match where he bowled 43.2 overs picking seven wickets.

After suffering a disappointing series loss against New Zealand at home the Indian head coach will try to guide the team to victory in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, it’s his first overseas test series as head coach. The Indian team will travel to Optus Stadium on Tuesday.
