The 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held from April 8 to May 19. Big names like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Alzarri Joseph, and Daryl Mitchell will be joining the league for the first time.
David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, and Kane Williamson were all surprisingly not picked in the IPL auction for 2025, which now allows them to play in the upcoming PSL season.
The PSL 2025 Player Draft took place on January 13, 2025, in Lahore, where all six teams selected their players. A total of 116 players from 10 countries were chosen. Warner, the powerful opener, was chosen by Karachi Kings as their second pick in the Platinum round. With over 12,000 T20 runs in 392 matches, his experience is expected to help the Kings as they aim for their second PSL title.
Meanwhile, Karachi Kings selected Williamson in the supplementary round after he was not picked in the Platinum category. The seasoned batter adds great value to the Kings’ team this season.
Mitchell, a New Zealand teammate, was picked by Lahore Qalandars as the first pick of the day. With 70 T20I appearances, Mitchell’s all-around skills in batting, bowling, and fielding make him a valuable player for the team.
Peshawar Zalmi used their Right to Match (RTM) option to keep Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who had been picked by Quetta Gladiators. Kohler-Cadmore has been part of Zalmi for the past four PSL seasons. The Gladiators also picked New Zealand’s Mark Chapman, who has played 81 T20Is in his 10-year international career.
The last two picks in the Platinum round were Michael Bracewell and Matthew Short. Multan Sultans chose Bracewell, while Islamabad United selected Short. Peshawar Zalmi also picked West Indies fast bowler Joseph.
“In the Platinum round two, Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings had two picks each. Gladiators used their Wild Card pick option to snare all-rounder Faheem Ashraf to their squad,” the PCB said in a statement.
The other player Quetta selected was the aggressive Kiwi opening batter, Finn Allen. At 25, Allen has played 47 T20Is for New Zealand, scoring 1,141 runs, including two centuries, with a strike rate of 158.69. Shoaib Malik will play in his tenth straight HBL PSL season as he was selected by Quetta Gladiators in the Supplementary Round Three.
