Australia, the World Champions, have revealed their squad for the upcoming ICC event Champions Trophy 2025. The team will be led by Pat Cummins in the tournament, which will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 19 to March 9.
Cummins has been added to the team even though chief selector George Bailey mentioned an injury worry for the Australian captain during the Sydney Test against India. Cummins won’t play the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting later this month due to personal reasons, and he is also dealing with an ankle problem. His fitness status is still unclear.
“This is a balanced and experienced squad with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year’s successful tour of the UK, and the more recent Pakistan home series,” said the chief of selectors, George Bailey.
Josh Hazlewood is also fully recovered and part of the squad after being absent from the last two Test matches against India and the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Even though he was dropped from the Test team, Mitchell Marsh has kept his place in the squad.
The same team will also play a single ODI against Sri Lanka in Hambantota on February 13. The Australian team is placed in Group B of the Champions Trophy, along with England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
