India vs Pakistan: Head to Head Record in T20 World Cup, Full History

India and Pakistan will face each other in the pivotal event on June 09 at T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

So far India has won the first match against Ireland in the current tournament while Pakistan faced a harsh defeat in its first match against USA.

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup – 2007 (Group stage match)

In the 10th match of the tournament in Durban, it was the second tied international match in the history of T20 cricket. Misbah-ul-Haq for the first time was seen faltering in that competition.

India grabbed the bat and scored 141/9. In defense they almost had Pakistan down in 9 overs but with Misbah scoring half century, scores were tied as he was run out.

The tournament had a rule of bowl-out with players from each team bowling balls at the stumps without a batsman on the crease. Decision went into the favor of India hitting their first three while Pakistan missed all three. Best of 5 bowl-out by India.

IND vs PAK T20 World Cup – 2007 (Final)

Beating Pakistan in the final of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, it is speculated India was stimulated to create the Indian Premier League (IPL), that began in 2008.

Let’s go through how the victory was stitched by MS Dhoni, the first-time captain.

India won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Gautam Gambhir entered the ground striking 75 in just 54 balls. Young Rohit Sharma produced 30 runs off 16 balls helping immensely the eventual champions who boasted a score of 157 on the board in 20 overs.

In run chase Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq kept team in the hunt and almost took them over the line but the heavy loss of wickets at regular intervals couldn’t make the victory possible for Men in Green.

A smooth slide to victory for India as the game turned one-sided.

Pakistan was bundled out for 128 in an astonishing style. The star performances from India in the run chase saw young Virat Kohli pulling off 78 contributing major amount to the target. Supported by Virender Sehwag (29 off 24) and Yuvraj Singh (19 off 16) , Men in blue snatched an amazing victory with 3 overs to spare.

IND vs PAK T20 World Cup – 2014

Giving the bat to Pakistan, India won the toss.

With Umar Akmal (33 off 30) and Ahmed Shehzad (22 off 17) as the major contributors, Pakistan pulled off a target of 130 runs in 20 overs. In response India presented Shikhar Dhawan (30 off 28), Virat Kohli (36 off 32) and Suresh Raina (35 off 28) batting sensibly to claim the win.

Notably, Indian pacer Mohammad Shami picked the wicket of the highest contributor for the opponents in his debut match at Dhaka.

In a rain-shortened game, Pakistan was put to bat.

Umar Akmal (22 off 16) and Shoaib Malik (26 off 16) as the major contributors Pakistan managed to get 118/5 in 18 overs. Looking hazy at the start, India seemed down at 23/3 in less than 5 overs. However, Virat Kohli turned the game in favor in heroic manner with a quickfire 55 not out off 37 balls. After getting to a half-century, this is the game where he bowed down to his idol Sachin Tendulkar watching him in the stands.

IND vs PAK T20 World Cup – 2021

Until 2016, India had a clean record against Pakistan. A win over Men in Blue meant the first victory of Pakistan against arch-rivals in the history of T20 World Cup at Dubai International Cricket Ground in Dubai by 10 wickets. They won the group-stage match against India.

IND vs PAK T20 World Cup – 2022

Avenging T20 World Cup 2021 defeat against Pakistan, India put forth a thrilling show against the opponents beating by a margin of 4 wickets.

The hero of the show was again Virat Kohli who finished as the top scorer in the first game of the T20 World Cup.
