ICC Could Not Convince PCB for Hybrid Model, Schedule Announcement for CT25 Likely Delayed

The uncertainty surrounding the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy continues, with fresh reports hinting at yet another delay in the release of the tournament schedule. While earlier updates had raised expectations of an announcement by the end of this week, it now seems unlikely to materialize.

At the heart of this delay lies the ICC’s ongoing struggle to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) to compromise on a hybrid hosting model. PCB accepted the hybrid model for the Asia Cup 2023, where all the Indian matches were played in Sri Lanka. However, the PCB has stood firm on its position from the very beginning, adamant that every match of the Champions Trophy 2025 should take place on Pakistani soil.

PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi stated, “We will ensure that Champions Trophy is held in Pakistan. We have written a letter to ICC, we are awaiting a response. We are just talking to ICC. I believe sports and politics should not be mixed together. I am just hoping for a positive result”.“I think no one can give us a tough time. Every ICC member has its right, things cannot function like this. I am just hoping for a positive result when it comes to Champions Trophy,” Naqvi added.
