Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath showed huge praise on India’s pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the ongoing five-match Test series could have been one-sided without his contribution. Bumrah is currently the top wicket-taker of the series, with 30 wickets from four matches at an impressive average of 12.83, including three five-wicket hauls.
Bumrah has been India’s top performer in the five Tests, consistently being the captain’s key bowler whenever the team needed a breakthrough. Recently, Glenn McGrath recognized his huge influence on the series, stating that without him, the Indian side would have struggled a lot.
Bumrah has delivered 141.2 overs across the four Tests, the highest by any bowler in the series. This includes 53.2 overs in the most recent match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which is the longest he has ever bowled in a red-ball match. This stat shows how much India depends on Bumrah for their bowling.
“He has been a massive part of the Indian team and without him, the series might have been more one-sided and what he does is special. Terrific young guy who has found a way to adapt. Absolutely incredible how he powers into bowl the last few steps,” McGrath quoted.
“Got a little bit of hyperextension which I used to have as well. He is coping with it and has incredible control both ways, guess they are managing him well. I am a massive fan of Jasprit,” he added.
Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he has taken 30 wickets so far in four test matches with an average of less than 20. However, India struggled with the bat and suffered a loss at the MCG.
Australia is leading the five-match test series by 2-1 and the final test will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on 3 January.
