Australia extended their first-innings total to 445 in the morning with Alex Carey’s crucial contribution for the team total, before Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins ripped off through India’s top order. Despite weather interruptions causing significant disruptions with rain delays and poor light, Australia retained a strong hold over India on Day 3 of the ongoing third Test. They capitalized on the conditions, establishing a commanding position before the weather intervened once more.

India’s reply got off to a disastrous start. Yashasvi Jaiswal departed after scoring 4 runs. The wickets continued to tumble as Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli both fell cheaply. India was left reeling at 22/3, and a rain delay soon followed. However, once play resumed, Pat Cummins claimed the big wicket of Rishabh Pant, and India found themselves in a weak position.

Virat Kohli once again falls for the outside off-stump ball where he tries to drive the ball but ends up edging it in the safe hands of Alex Carey.

India finished day three at four wickets down for 51, trailing Australia’s total by 394 runs. Their immediate goal will be to reach 246 to avert the follow-on. If they manage to do so, they will significantly enhance their chances of heading to Melbourne with the series still tied. Rain is also forecast for days four and five.

Marsh was delighted with Virat Kohli’s dismissal he said, “He is a big wicket, and he is one of the greatest players ever, so it’s just about being diligent and trying to execute our plans, and I guess it’s always nice to see the back of one of the game’s greats. We bowled really well. We have some great bowlers, and they are always attacking and looking to take wickets all the time.”
