From Oval to Brisbane Via Ahmedabad, Travis Head Continues to Torment India

Travis Head scored his second consecutive century against India, maintaining his outstanding form, on Sunday, Day 2 of the third Test at The Gabba in Brisbane.

The left-handed batsman smashed an impressive 152 off 160 deliveries, including 18 boundaries, to place Australia in a commanding position on the second day. Steven Smith also regained his form, registering his first century in 25 innings with a steady 101. After being dismissed for golden ducks twice against the West Indies at The Gabba earlier this year, he redeemed for this outstanding innings against India.

It wasn’t the first time Head was achieving what he did. Head has been a constant challenge for India, scoring three centuries and two fifties in his last seven innings against them, scoring 90, 163, 18, 11, 89, 140, and 152. He has proven to be the decisive factor in key matches, including the ICC World Test Championship final, the ODI World Cup final last year, and the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

World Test Championship Final, 2023

In the first innings of the WTC final of 2023, Travis Head walked in the middle when Australia was in a bit of trouble at 3-76 and India looked in control after dismissing Marnus Labuschagne at 26. Head dominated the Indian bowler and smashed 163 runs off just 174 balls in a very important match.

Head smashed 25 boundaries and one maximum in his extraordinary innings which allowed Australia to gain the upper hand in the match by posting 469 runs.

The incredible innings from the left-hander helped Australia to win the ICC World Test Championship title.

ICC ODI World Cup Final 2023

In the 2023 ICC World Cup final, Travis Head delivered a match-winning performance with a remarkable innings of 137 runs. Head opened the innings for Australia when they were chasing 241 runs. Indian bowlers were at their best in that tournament, Mohammad Shami drew the first blood for India and wickets kept falling but Head counter-attacked the bowling unit of Men in Blue and built a solid partnership with Marnus Labuschagne. Head’s knock played a key role in chasing up the total for Australia.

2nd Test Of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

After a disappointing loss for Australia in the opening test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth, Travis Head smashed 140 runs in the first innings and pushed India on the back foot, Head has always dominated India in important events and India has always prepared plans for Travis Head but couldn’t execute them properly in the middle. Recently Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel stated margins to Travis Head are very small.
