Caitlin Clark has taken her rookie season in the WNBA by storm with a combination of skill, vision, and scoring ability making her one of the most exciting players in the league currently. Clark’s knack for delivering in clutch moments, combined with her exceptional court awareness and impressive shooting range has made her an asset for Indiana Fever.
The rookie once again stole all the headlines, scoring a career-high 35 points in the 110-109 win over the Dallas Wings. She also broke the record for most points by a rookie in a WNBA season, accumulating 761 points in 39 games. The record was previously held by Seimone Augustus who scored 744 points in 2006 with Minnesota.
Clark reached the milestone in the third quarter, scoring a three-pointer that tied the game at 78 points each. Kelsey Mitchell also shone for the Fever, putting up 30 points, while Aliyah Boston contributed 15 to the Fever’s score in the team’s final regular-season home game.
Fever also clinched their spot in the playoffs which is their first since 2016 and matched its franchise record for single-game points and equaled its season high for three-pointers made. “Everybody is definitely excited for the playoffs,” Clark said after the match. “We’re not just happy to be there. We really feel like we can compete with every single team.”
Fever will play their last regular season game against the Washington Mystics and in the first round of the playoffs, the Fever will face the third-seeded Connecticut Sun, who won three of their four regular-season meetings. On the other hand, the Wings, who are already out of playoff contention will play their final match against the Las Vegas Aces.
Caitlin Clark Sets New WNBA Record for Single-Season Assists
Clark also broke the WNBA record for most assists in a single season in Fever’s 78-74 defeat to the Aces on Friday. The rookie gave 9 assists against the Aces, bringing her total to 321 assists for the season. The previous record was held by Alyssa Thomas who gave 316 assists last season.
Clark is also the clear frontrunner to win the Rookie of the Year award and is expected to outshine her main competitor, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, who set WNBA rebounding records throughout the season but will miss the final few games due to a wrist injury.
