Gervonta “Tank” Davis to Reportedly Earn Massive Seven-Figure Sum After KO Win Frank Martin
The “Tank” Gervonta Davis made a spectacular return to the boxing ring defeating Frank Martin in an eighth-round knockout win at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. With this win, Davis retains his WBA lightweight title.
The champion is known for his slow starts and this fight was no different as he took a measured approach in the early minutes. Martin landed a couple of low-intensity shots at Davis’ ribs but there was not a lot between two fighters at the end of Round 1.
Martin again threw a couple of body shots at Davis in the second round drawing cheers from the fans. In the third round, Martin increased his punch volume as he outboxed his opponent. Davis slowly grew into the round finishing round three strong thanks to a high left-right combination.
“Tank” came to life in the fourth round as he backed Martin into the ropes with high-intensity jabs and an uppercut to the body. The champion continued his good work in Round 5 backing the challenger into the corner. Davis landed one of the best shots of his fight when he threw a right hook at Martin’s nose.
Davis kept applying pressure in the sixth round but Martin’s resilient defense kept the champ’s offense at bay. Martin managed to stun Davis in the seventh round with a powerful jab but the champ was able to regather.
In the eighth round of the fight, Davis landed a left hook that knocked Martin out as he fell flat on the canvas. This knockout helped Davis retain his WBA lightweight belt.
“I’ve been around for a long time, I’ve been training since I was 7 years old and competing since I was 8. It’s like second nature. It’s about staying focused, making sure my mind is on a goal, and that’s always to come out on top.” Davis said after the fight.
“A couple of rounds, I didn’t feel like I warmed up completely like I wanted to, but I did warm up as the fight was going on, I knew that he was going to tire down, so I was just standing there, being a target for him so he could tire himself out. And once he tired himself out, I started picking him apart.”
Apart from retaining his WBA lightweight title, Davis also secured a hefty payday with reported earnings of a staggering $10 million, while his opponent Martin expected to take home $1.25M, according to ‘Marca’.
