Day 3 of the 2024 US Open saw the commencement of the second-round matches with big names like Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic advancing to the third round while reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova was the shock name to exit on Day 3. Let us take a look at the day 3 results in detail.

Bulgarian ace, Grigor Dimitrov made light work of Rinky Hijikata beating the Australian in straight sets by 6-1, 6-1, 7-6.
Andrey Rublev and Arthur Rinderknech were involved in the match of the day after an epic 5 round battle. After losing the first two sets, Rublev fought back in some style to beat his opponent 4-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Sixth seed Rublev seized the opportunity and drew on his experience to clinch the win after four hours and six minutes of intense play.

Women’s Results
In the shock exit of the day, Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova was defeated by Elena-Gabriela Ruse by 6-4, 7-5. The No. 8-seeded Krejcikova won her second Grand Slam singles title this summer and was understandably disappointed with her performance against Gabriela.
“I mean, winning Wimbledon is amazing. It’s a great, great, great result, I’m very proud about it and how I was able to handle everything there,” said Krejcikova. “I think I was playing quite well, definitely better than in the first match. I think my game was improving, but it just wasn’t enough,” she added.
In the other matches, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-1 and Elina Svitolina beat Anhelina Kalinina 6-1, 6-2. Chinese 7th seed Zheng Qinwen came from a set down to beat Erika Andreeva of Russia by 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-2.
American Coco Gauff also booked her place in the 3rd round with a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 win over Germany’s Tatjana Maria.
“The last couple of weeks were tough and I was like, ‘I have to do this and do that’ but I don’t have to prove anything to anyone except myself,” Gauff said. “This whole week or two weeks are just about proving all the expectations that I have on myself,” she added.
