Coco Gauff vs Swiatek, Sinner vs Alcaraz: French Open Semi-Finals Set
For the first time in 20 years, The French Open men’s semifinals will not feature any one of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic as the last four for this year’s French Open have been decided.
Alexander Zverev reached the French Open Semi-Final for the fourth year in a row after a win over Australian 11th seed Alex De Minaur by 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
The Russian will face Casper Ruud in the semi-final who received a walkover due to Novak Djokovic’s injury. The pair had also met in last year’s semi-final in which Ruud emerged as the winner. The Norwegian would be fresher of the two players given that his last match was on Monday in the fourth round clash against American Taylor Fritz.
In the other semi-final, Italy’s Jannick Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz from Spain. The pair have met each other eight times with four wins a piece. In their recent meeting at the Indian Wells Masters 1000, the Spaniard won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In Women’s quarter-finals matches, Mirra Andreeva upset 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, and Jasmine Paolini beat Elena Rybakina 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Andreeva and Paolini will now face each other in the semi-final. The pair have only met once before earlier this year when Mirra Andreeva won in straight sets.
World no.1 Iga Świątek will face Coco Gauff in the other semi-final. Świątek will enter the game as a clear favorite as she has won ten matches out of eleven against the American. She also holds a 4-0 record against her opponent on the clay court. The pair’s last meeting was in Rome last month when Świątek won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
The Women’s semi-finals will take place at the Court Phillipe-Chatrier tonight and the Men’s semifinals will take place on Friday at the same venue.
