Coco Gauff And Aryna Sabalenka To Face In Wuhan Semis

World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka delivered a dominant performance, defeating Poland’s Magdalena Frech 6-2, 6-2, to keep her perfect record intact at the Wuhan Open. The Belarusian hit 42 winners across 16 games and secured the win in just 1 hour and 23 minutes, advancing to her eighth semifinal of the year, where she will face fourth-ranked Coco Gauff.

The reigning US Open champion, Sabalenka, has now won all 15 of her matches in Wuhan, claiming the title in her 2018 debut and successfully defending it in 2019 before the tournament’s five-year break. The 26-year-old and the reigning US Open champion, has maintained an unbeaten 15-0 record in Wuhan, having won the title during her debut in 2018 and successfully defending it in 2019, before the event’s five-year break from the tour.

On the other hand, Coco Gauff, the 20-year-old tennis star, secured her 50th WTA win of the season with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Magda Linette in the Wuhan Open quarterfinals.

“I’m really happy with how I played,” Gauff said. “Obviously a smooth first set. Had chances to maybe close it out in the 5-3 game in the second, but happy I was able to close it out on my serve.”

Gauff and Sabalenka are no strangers to high-stakes matchups, and this semifinal promises to be another thrilling encounter. With both competitors in excellent form, it’s a dream showdown. Sabalenka, a two-time Wuhan Open champion, has yet to suffer a loss at this venue, while Gauff is aiming for back-to-back titles in China. With their deep familiarity with each other’s games, mental resilience could be the key factor.
