US Olympic Trials: Simone Biles off to a Perfect Start

Olympic gymnastics trials kicked off in Minneapolis on Thursday. From 27-30 June, two days of men’s and two days of women’s competition is set to take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis Minnesota.

Bronze medalist Frederick Richard, leads the Men’s competition. On the other side, Simone Biles holds the commanding position in Women’s gymnastics.

In the Day 1 trial of USA Olympics in Women’s gymnastics, Simone Biles stands at top with a total score of 58.900. She paced the field with a 14.850 in the floor and 15.975 in the vault, with a second-place performance on the uneven bars and fifth in balance beam.

Four time world champion, was unbeatable on the vault, as well,

Earlier in the month of June, Biles won the ninth all-around US gymnastics title at the Xfinity Championships. This win recorded an all-around total of 119.750.

Also in May, she claimed another victory, her seventh-career Core Hydration Classic all-around title at the XL Center. She scored an impressive 59.500 in all-around competition in a field of 49 senior gymnasts in Hartford.

Rough injuries for Shilese Jones and Kayla DiCello

While warming up on the vault before the competition, Shilese Jones went down after getting injured. She was expected to take part in the competition but now her position is questionable. There was initially an announcement that she is competing but was later scratched from the vault.

Kayla DiCello after landing badly on the vault also sustained injury. Soon she was taken off the floor in a wheelchair. She will be missing rest of the trials after an Achilles injury.

Day 2 for the women is scheduled for June 30 (Sunday), while the men will finish their competition on June 29 (Saturday) of US Olympics in Gymnastics.
