How Many Medals India Won in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics ?

India has registered their best ever win at Tokyo Olympics. At Tokyo Olympics, India has surpassed its astounding haul of six medals at London 2012. With Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold, India won seven medals at Tokyo Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra gave India the first-ever track and field medal in Olympics. On June 29, Chopra threw the Javelin 87.58m to clinch the gold medal. He became India’s second individual Olympic champion after Abhinav Bindra. Also, it was India’s first track-and-field medal at any Olympic Games.

Other medalists at Tokyo Olympics include:

 Mirabai ChanuSilver Medal- Weightlifting

Mirabai Chanu has made India’s debut medal at Tokyo 2020. With a silver medal in the women’s 49kg, she won her first medal at the Olympics.  Karnam Malleswari’s bronze at Sydney 2000 was the first to win the Olympic weightlifting medal.

Lovlina Borgohain – Bronze medal – women’s welterweight (64-69kg)

 At Games it was Lovlina Borgohain debut, when she won the bronze medal. In the semi-final she lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the women’s 69kg. Beating  Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen in quarter- finals won her the medal.

PV Sindhu – Bronze medal – women’s singles badminton

PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman and only the second Indian athlete after Sushil Kumar to win two individual Olympic medals. In the women’s singles, she beat China’s He Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15 to win the bronze medal.

This is the third confirmed medal at Tokyo 2020. At Rio 2016, India had won only two medals.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya – Silver medal – men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling

In his debut at Olympics, Dahiya had assured himself a medal. Ravi Kumar Dahiya lost to twice world champion Zavur Uguev of ROC in the final of the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling. This was a great feat as a debutant, earning him the silver medal.

It was India’s second silver medal in wrestling after Sushil Kumar at London 2012.

Indian hockey team – Bronze medal – men’s hockey

Much much awaited medal for India was that of hockey at Olympics. India after four decades, garnered the Olympic medal in hockey since the gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

India made a great comeback to beat Germany 5-4 and claim the bronze medal. It is India’s third bronze medal after the 1968 and 1972 Games.

Bajrang Punia – Bronze medal – men’s 65kg wrestling

Third debutant from India, beat Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov, a World Championships silver-medallist, in the men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling playoff to secure the bronze medal.

Bajrang Punia’s medal was the sixth medal equaling the six medal haul at London 2012.
