USA will have their sights set on quarter-final qualification when they face Panama in their second game of the Copa America 2024.
USMNT are one win away from knockout round qualification after they beat Bolivia in their opening group match. Panama, on the other hand, are in desperate need of a win after losing to Uruguay in their opening fixture. A defeat would see Los Canaleros knocked out of the tournament.
USA’s forward position was under the spotlight at the beginning of the tournament, however, Folarin Balogun’s performance in the first match will be enough to earn him regular starts in the tournament. The Monaco striker scored the Americans’ second goal against Bolivia and is expected to start ahead of Ricardo Pepi again.
Tyler Adams was preferred over Yunus Musah in the midfield despite 25-year-old injury concerns which kept the Bournemouth man for almost the entirety of the 2023-24 season. Adams is expected to start again in the heart of USMNT midfield.
For Panama, Michael Murillo will once again be the key after the Olympique de Marseille striker netted Panama’s only goal against Uruguay.
The two teams last met on July 12, 2023, during the CONCACAF Gold Cup match. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The USA will come into the game as strong favorites. They will have their tails up going into the match against Panama after a strong performance against Bolivia.
Panama are in desperate need of a result against the USA. They will back themselves going into the match after a decent showing in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. They have also performed well so far in the CONCACAF Nations League and defeat to Uruguay in the opening match may well prove to be a wake-up call for the ever-improving Panama side.
