Virat Kohli Retirement? Will He Call It Quits in the Shorter Format If India Win T20 World Cup
As India reach the final of T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may be seen playing their last match of shorter format. India will be locking horns against South Africa on June 29.
Winning the trophy would mean Kohli will get his hands on the only white ball trophy, that he hasn’t won. However, in the ongoing tournament, Kohli is not able to perform his best.
Both the batters, Rohit and Virat have struggled to score in the foreign grounds. While Rohit pulled off 248 runs, Virat managed to score only 75 runs in the competition so far. In the semi-final against England, he was dismissed at his lowest score of 9 runs.
Virat Kohli has proven himself pivotal throughout his cricketing career.
Kohli In ODI World Cup And Champions Trophy
The ex-captain, Virat Kohli has led India to three ICC tournaments- 2017 Champions Trophy, 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 T20 World Cup. He was the key member of Indian team which won the 2011 Cricket World Cup, 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He holds the record as the highest run-scorer in IPL, ranks third in T20I, third in ODI, and stands as the fourth-highest in international cricket.
Kohli Has Won No T20 Trophy
Virat still awaits his dream of winning a trophy in the T20 format. He has not won a T20 World Cup yet. Also in the Indian Premier League(IPL), he couldn’t lead his team RCB, to trophy.
If India wins the T20 World Cup 2024, speculations are Virat may consider retirement from the shorter format after fulfilling the dream.
Waseem Jaffer About Virat Kohli’s Retirement
The ex Indian team batter Waseem Jaffer feels Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will retire from T20 World Cup. He said on a YouTube channel,
“I think they both (Virat and Rohit) will retire from T20Is after the T20 World Cup. It is their call eventually and also the call of the selectors. While they will continue to play in the IPL, I believe we are seeing them for the last time in T20Is at the T20 World Cup.”
Also about Virat Kohli he believes,
“Yes, I think Virat Kohli will score hundred international hundreds. He has a lot of time left and the way his fitness is and the way he scores his runs with consistency, I hundred percent expect him to cross hundred hundreds.”
Also couple of months ago, Yuvraj Singh, ambassador T20 World Cup 2024 told ICC,
“As you get older people start talking about your age and they forget about your for. These guys have been great players for India, and they deserve to go (retire) when they want,”
ICC shared a picture captioned “Two Champions of the game.”

Virat Kohli’s retirement rumors grew stronger after ICC shared a photo dump of recently retired David Warner with Virat Kohli.
