Euro 2024 Preview: Netherlands vs France in Mouth Watering Clash, Austria Take on Poland and Slovakia Play Ukraine
Slovakia will play Ukraine in Group E in the first match of the day. The Netherlands will take on France in a Group D clash as both teams look to secure their place in the knockout stage of Euro 2024. In the other Group D match Poland will take on Austria after both teams lost their opening-day matches.
Slovakia vs Ukraine – Group E
Slovakia stunned Belgium in their opening match of the Euro 2024. Slovakia are ranked 48th in the world rankings while Belgium are 3rd making the opening-day victory the biggest rankings gap ever overcome by an underdog, according to Opta.
Their next test will come in the form of Ukraine who lost by 3-0 against Romania in their opening match. Ukraine have a miserable record in the previous ten Euro group games winning just two and losing eight.
The two teams have met eight times previously with three wins for Slovakia, two for Ukraine, and three matches ending in draws. Their most recent meeting came in 2018 when Slovakia won 4-1.
Poland vs Austria – Group D
Poland will face Austria in their second match with both the teams tasting defeat in their opening matches. Poland will hope their star striker Robert Lewandowski will be fit for the match after missing their opening day defeat against the Netherlands due to a thigh injury.
“He (Lewandowski) will hopefully play against Austria, he’s a very important player for us,” Probierz told reporters after the defeat to the Dutch.
Ahead of the crucial clash, both teams have faced each other 11 times in competitive matches and Poland has the superior record with six wins, compared to Austria’s three.
Netherlands vs France – Group D
The Netherlands will play France at Leipzig in the biggest match of the day with sights set on the knockout stage qualification. The Dutch overcame Poland 2-1 in their opening match while the French beat Austria 1-0.
The two teams were drawn in the same group of the Euro qualifying with France winning both games. Kylian Mbappe scored four goals over the course of two matches. However, the former PSG forward will be a major doubt for France after suffering a broken nose against Austria.
The Netherlands are Mbappe’s favorite opponents having scored in five of the six games he played against them.
“Obviously, the French team with or without him, this is not the same thing. I hope he can be there,” Deschamps said after the Austria win.
