All Time Top Scorers at Euro, Who tops the list?

The European Championship has been graced by some of the best goalscorers over the years. Likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappé are set to light up the tournament in Germany this year to claim the Golden Boot Award.

Today we take a look at the top scorers at Euro in its 66 year history

10. Zlatan Ibrahimović (6 Goals)

When it comes to the National team, Ibrahimović had a chance to represent nations like Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, he chose Sweden as his National side. He debuted on Jan 31, 2001, against Faroe Islands.

He went on to score six goals for Sweden at the four Euro tournaments he participated in.

9. Patrick Kluivert (6 Goals)

Patrick Kluivert has also scored six goals in the Euros. However, he did so in only three tournaments (1996, 2000, 2004). He scored a famous hattrick at the European Championship in 2020 in a 6-1 win over Yugoslavia.

In Euro 2000, Kluivert guided the Netherlands to the semifinals.

8. Romelu Lukaku (6 Goals)

Lukaku is Belgium’s all-time leading scorer surpassing Bernard Voorhoof and Paul Van Himst and eighth overall top scorer in the European Championships.

With six Euro goals already to his name, he can further extend his numbers as he is a part of Belgium’s squad for the ongoing Euro 2024 in Germany.

7. Nuno Gomes (6 Goals)

Gomes debuted for Portugal at the age of 19 in a friendly match against France. He has represented Portugal at every level and has scored six goals in the Euros.

In the 2004 Euros, he scored a match-winning goal against Spain to take Portugal into the quarterfinals.

6. Wayne Rooney (6 Goals)

Wayne Rooney had a chance to represent Ireland at the International level but chose England instead. He scored a brace against Switzerland at Euro 2004, becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer of the European Championships.

He went on to score six goals at three European Championships he played in. (2004, 2012, 2016).

5. Ruud van Nistelrooy (6 Goals)

Ruud van Nistelrooy has 70 caps for the Dutch National team in which he scored 35 goals, six of which came at the Euros of 2004 and 2008. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward was a threat throughout his career and was known for his quick feet.

His senior team debut came on November 18, 1998, against Germany in a friendly.

4. Antoine Griezmann (7 Goals)

The World Cup winner is a prolific goal-scoring threat at the French National side. In just two Euros, he has already bagged seven goals. If he continues to notch up goals at this rate he would definitely be challenging at the top of the time Euro goal-scoring list.

Alongside teammate Mbappe, he has made France one of the clear favorites to go all the way at Euro 2024.

3. Alan Shearer (7 Goals)

Alan Shearer scored in his debut game for England against France in February 1992. He played in three Euro tournaments (1992, 1996, 2000) scoring seven goals in the process. At the 1996 Euros, he played an integral part in guiding England to the semifinals.

He managed to score in the semi-final only for the Germans to win the game in a penalty shootout.

2. Michel Platini (9 Goals)

Michel Platini scored nine goals at the UEFA Euros. He guided France to a Euro Championships win in 1984 where he was the top scorer of the tournament. In the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, he played an important role in France’s journey to the quarter-final.

Apart from the French National team, he also represented the French Military team.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (14 Goals)

Cristiano Ronaldo sits at the top of the all-time highest Euro goalscoring list which comes as no surprise. He has already scored an incredible 14 goals at the Euros, a number which is set to increase this summer at Euro 2024. He guided Portugal to a Euro 2016 victory in France. This year’s tournament in Germany will be his sixth underlining his will to succeed even at the age of 39.

With Euro 2024 underway, will their be new names in this top 10 list? We will have to wait and find out.
