Lando Norris claimed victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, inching closer to the top of the Formula One drivers’ standings. The 24-year-old Brit secured his third win of the season, crossing the line 20 seconds ahead of current leader Max Verstappen at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Norris held on to the lead in the first corner of the race and never looked back as he streaked ahead of the rest of the pack to claim his 3rd win of the season. Max Verstappen finished second, on a night where he was pretty much in a race of his own while Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri, who started from P5, managed to jump the two Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to finish on the final podium spot.
All was not pretty for the race winner as he brushed the wall on couple of occasions but managed to escape without any casualty. Norris’ fastest lap point was also stolen on the final lap of the race by Red Bull sister team driver Daniel Ricciardo of RB which may prove to be crucial at the end of the season. The race may also be the final race of Ricciardo’s F1 career as Liam Lawson looks set the take the Aussie’s seat for the rest of the season.

Reflecting on his third Formula 1 win after stepping out of the car, Norris remarked, “It was an incredible race. There were a few close calls and some tense moments in the middle, but overall, I felt it was well managed.”
β€œThe car was mega. I could push, we were flying the whole race and at the end could just chill, so it was a nice race. Still, though, I’m a bit out of breath. A very fun one.” he added.
Norris’ triumph further chipped away at Verstappen’s lead in the drivers’ championship, reducing the Dutchman’s advantage to 52 points with six races to go. Charles Leclerc, who finished P5 in Singapore sits 3rd in the championship with 245 points. Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz complete the top 5 with 237 and 190 points respectively.
On the other hand, McLaren increased their Constructor’s lead over Red Bull to 41 points as Sergio Perez yet again had a disappointing outing finishing P10.
After the culmination of Singapore weekend, F1 goes into a month-long break and will return to the United States for the Circuit of the Americas Grand Prix (COTA) from 18-20 November 2024.
