Why Pakistan Dropped Captain Mohammad Rizwan from the T20I vs Australia

Ahead of the 3rd T20I between Australia and Pakistan, the management of the Pakistan cricket team made shocking changes in the playing XI for the final match of the series. Salman Ali Agha replaced Mohammed Rizwan as captain of the Pakistan team and left-arm pacer Jahandad Khan replaced Naseem Shah.

Naseem Shah struggled in the T20 and ODI series as he only managed to pick five wickets in three ODI’s against Australia. Shah picked one wicket in two T20s with a poor economy of 13.50 his struggle to continue in the shorter format resulted in his exclusion from the playing XI for the third T20. Haseebullah replaced Rizwan as wicketkeeper for the final T20.

Pakistan management may analyze Agha’s captaincy closely as they’ll consider him as the future captain for Men in Green in a shorter format. Agha will lead Pakistan for the first time against Australia in the third T20. PCB also named Agha as captain for the Zimbabwe tour for three ODIs.

Pakistan will play the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe on 24 November 2024.
