There has been a lot of discussion about whether top Indian batter Virat Kohli should return to the Ranji Trophy to find his red-ball form again, along with captain Rohit Sharma. Kohli last played in the Ranji Trophy 13 years ago, while Rishabh Pant hasn’t played in it for seven years.
Top Indian batter Virat Kohli has apparently injured his neck, and it is uncertain if he will play in the Ranji Trophy, especially with the Champions Trophy just a month away. Reports suggest that Kohli hurt his neck and had to get an injection for it. However, the Delhi & District Cricket Association has not received any updates so far.
“Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update,” a source told the Times of India.
At this point, it’s still possible that Kohli could join the Delhi team at some point, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he practices with them in Rajkot before their match against Saurashtra. The Delhi team is set to leave on January 20 and will have two practice sessions before the game starts.
“A senior DDCA official said Kohli’s name will most likely be added to the squad with “subject to availability” next to it. The situation, however, could change if they get a clear picture before the meeting this afternoon (January 17) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The probables of the squad have a net session before the men’s senior selection committee and coach Sarandeep Singh meet to pick the side,” the report mentioned.
Some of the big players confirmed for the upcoming Ranji matches include Yashasvi Jaiswal, who will play for Mumbai, and Shubman Gill, who will be representing Punjab in the next round.
