Virat Kohli Targets County Cricket to Improve Red Ball Form After IPL 2025: Reports

Virat Kohli’s recent struggles with the bat in Australia have led to doubts about his future in international cricket. In 5 test matches of the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the right-handed batsman managed to score 190 runs, including only one century at Perth.

India’s next Test series is against England in July, and according to a report by Republic quoting RevSportz, Kohli is expected to play county cricket to get ready for the five-match series against England. This series is India’s first assignment of the World Test Championship cycle 2025-27.

Kohli’s weakness outside the off stump was clearly shown in Australia, as he was frequently caught edging balls outside the fourth stump. His recent series against England hasn’t gone as expected for the Indian star.

Playing County cricket could be the ideal way to not just improve his skills but also boost his confidence. It’s not just about fixing his technique; it’s also about getting his mind back in the game.

Kohli’s decision to play county cricket will depend on the IPL season. He is an important player for RCB, and his role is not just about scoring runs, but also about his leadership and the influence he has on the team. Missing the IPL to get ready for the international series won’t be easy, as the franchise owners will also have a say.

If RCB doesn’t make the playoffs, Kohli will have a great chance to go to England early and play some County games. But if RCB makes it to the IPL final on May 25, Kohli will only have two weeks to join County cricket and get used to the English conditions before the five-match Test series begins.

India will play the first Test on June 20, 2025, at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds, England.
