Royal Challengers Bangalore, got eliminated from the Indian Premier League 2024, after losing by 4 wickets to Rajasthan Royals. This defeat meant Kohli is yet to win the IPL trophy with his Bengaluru side falling short on many occasions. So, is it time for a change?

Given Kohli’s scintillating records in the Indian Premier League over the years and the fact he is highest scorer this year, Kevin Pietersen couldn’t hold back from suggesting that he should leave the team to fulfill his desire to win a IPL trophy.

Speaking on Star Sports, “I have said it before and I will say it again — the greats of the game in other sports, have left teams to go and seek glory somewhere else. When he has tried and tried so hard — won the Orange Cap yet again and done so much yet again and the franchise fails again. I understand for the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team… But Virat Kohli deserves a trophy. He deserves to play in a team that could help him to get that trophy,” Pietersen emphasized.

Further drawing parallel from sports icons like David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Harry Kane, who also moved to other clubs for their goals, Pietersen suggested Kohli should also make a shift to his Delhi roots and join Rishabh Pant captained, Delhi Capitals. Though the nearly 8,000 crore worth franchise, Delhi Capitals have never won the trophy ,Kevin opined,

“I actually think it should be Delhi. Delhi is the place where Virat needs to go. Virat can go away, and stay at home most of the time, I know he has a home in Delhi. He has a young family. He can spend more time there. He is a Delhi boy. Why can’t he go back? Delhi are as desperate as Bengaluru.”

Bengaluru or Delhi

Kohli is Delhi born and brought up into the Punjabi Hindu family and his formative years were spent in Uttam Nagar. Virat Kohli has also represented Delhi in the domestic cricket and has always been proud of his roots.

However, he started his IPL journey with RCB, but has been unable to lead them to the title. A switch to Delhi Capitals will mean a fresh challenge and with the right planning he could get his hands on the coveted IPL trophy.

Facing bitter setbacks with the Bengaluru, it will be interesting to see if Virat Kohli will consider returning to Delhi and leave Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
