Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson Tons Crush South Africa to Seal Series

Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson hammered South African bowlers all over the park, smashing 120(47) and 109(56) respectively, helping India secure a massive win by 135 runs. It was South Africa’s biggest defeat by runs in T20Is. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav opted to bat first in the 4th and final T20 between South Africa and India. Marco Jansen opened the bowling for the hosts as Reeza Hendricks gifted life to Abhishek Sharma in the first over.

India posted 73 runs in the powerplay with a loss of one wicket, Tilak Verma scored an unbeaten 107 runs in the last game and smashed his fifty in just 22 deliveries in the 4th T20. South African bowlers were never in control as both batters scored brilliant tons and helped India post the 5th highest score(283) in the history of the T20I. Verma and Samson smashed 10 and 9 sixes respectively. Verma was striking at 255.32.

While chasing the massive total South African batting lineup collapsed in the beginning of the innings as they lost four wickets at just 10 runs. Arshdeep Singh got three of them and trapped the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen in front of the stumps on the first ball he faced. South Africa was able to post just 30 runs in the first six overs, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs had a partnership of 86 runs until Varun Chakaravarthy picked the wicket of Miller, and Ravi Bishnoi removed Stubbs in the next over. Marco Jansen was unbeaten on 29 runs off 12 balls, he is the second-highest run-scorer for South Africa in this series.

India easily won the final T20 clinching the series with a young team, There were so many positives for India’s future as seniors retired from the T20Is after winning their second T20 World Cup earlier this year.

England will travel to India for five T20 match series in January 2025.

Fight For Supremacy

The Indian team is gearing up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy that will start on 22 November 2024. India has to win the series by a good margin to qualify for the World Test Championship final on their own. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is set to miss the first test of BGT due to personal reasons, he’ll join the team before the second test which is a night match at Adelaide Oval.
