The Board Of Control for Cricket(BCCI) officially announced that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. According to reports, if Pakistan is not willing to host the tournament in the “hybrid model”, ICC may move the entire tournament to South Africa.

Recently International Cricket Council (ICC) proposed to the PCB that the UAE will host all the Indian team matches of the tournament.PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has completely denied the idea of the hybrid model, “No discussions have been held regarding a hybrid model as of today, and we are not ready to discuss such a model,” Naqvi told reporters.

“The PCB has received an email from the ICC, stating that the BCCI has informed them that their team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB has forwarded that email to the Government of Pakistan for their advice and guidance,” Cricbuzz quoted a source as claiming.

What’s Ahead for the Champions Trophy 2025?

The ICC is now awaiting the PCB’s response to the hybrid model if the PCB refuses to host the tournament in the hybrid model then the ICC will shift the entire tournament to South Africa. it will be a repeat of past ICC decisions as South Africa last hosted the Champions Trophy in 2009 when it was moved out from Pakistan. In the coming weeks, it will likely become clear whether the Champions Trophy will remain in Pakistan or move to South Africa.

Is Pakistan Considering Withdrawal?

PCB has”dismissed the option” of the hybrid model which could relocate the entire tournament, which could result in Pakistan withdrawing from the Champions Trophy 2025. “In such a case, one of the options the government is mulling is that of asking the PCB to ensure Pakistan doesn’t participate in the Champions Trophy,” Dawn quoted a source as saying. According to PTI ICC makes sure that Pakistan will host most of the matches of the Champions Trophy 2025 and the PCB will receive “hosting fees” if they agree to host the tournament with the hybrid model.

The Champions Trophy will start on 19 February 2025.
