4 Players To Have Two Hat-Tricks In T20Is Apart From Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins creates history, becoming the first player to grab 2 hat-tricks in the T20 World Cup. He is also the first Australian player to claim this feat.
In a Super 8 match of T20 World Cup 2024, Australia locked horns against Afghanistan on June 23. In the 18th over, Cummins dismissed Rashid Khan. Then coming back in the last over, took the wicket of Karim Janat and Gulbadin. Thereby, setting a new record to his name.
In the history of T20Is, we have some other names, claiming multiple hat-tricks :
1) Lasith Malinga ( Sri Lanka)
Malinga claimed his first T20 hat-trick in Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh in 2017. In the penultimate over, Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed. Taking the wickets of Mashrafe Mortaza and Mehidy Hasan Miraz recorded the hat-trick.
Facing New Zealand in the final game of three-match T20 series in 2019, Malinga repeated his hat-trick. In the jaw dropping manner, in third over he back to back dismissed Colin Munro and Hamish Rutherford. After that he completed the hat-trick by taking the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme. Still, Malinga show didn’t end here, he took the fourth wicket of Ross Taylor.
2) Tim Southee (New Zealand)
In New Zealand vs Pakistan match in 2010, Tim Southee mustered his first hat-trick. The Men in Green were beaten as Southee took five wickets in the match. Dismissing first Younis Khan in the 18th over. Later taking wickets of Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal completed the hat-trick.
Next in 2022 in a match against, the Kiwi pacer took his second hat-trick in T20 three-match series. In the last over of the innings, he dismissed first Hardik Pandya. Next he took the wicket of Deepak Hooda and Washinghton Sundar claiming the hat-trick.
Although, Deepak Hooda in the second innings pulled off four wickets against New Zealand, Southee became second bowler to take hat-trick in shortest format of the game.
3)Mark Pavlovic (Serbia)
In Serbia vs Turkey 2023 match Mark Pavlovic got his first hat-trick. Defending a total of 181, Serbian captain first dismissed Mecit Ozturk in the 16th over. Then in the first two balls of 18th over, dismissed Muhammed Turkmen and Muhammet Kursat Canbaz making hat-trick.
Next in a match against Croatia, got his second hat-trick. In the 18th over, he dismissed Luka Papa Stubbs. In a jaw dropping scene, took the wicket of Hrvoje Hajnic on next ball and Antonio Faletar on the fourth delivery.
4) Waseem Abbas (Malta)
In Malta vs Belgium match, in 2021, Waseem first dismissed Ashiqullah Said in the 18th over. Returning in the final over, he took back to back wickets of Khalid Ahmadi and Nemish Mehta, to get to his hat-trick.
In Mdina Cup in 2023, Malta vs France match saw the second hat-trick by Abbas. In the 19th over of the match, he dismissed Zain Ahmad. Then by taking the wickets of Shayam Warnakulasuriya and Dawood Ahmadzai completed the hat-trick.
