India and Australia are currently contesting in the pink-ball Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, being held in Adelaide. During India’s bowling effort on Day 1, an image circulated widely on social media, asserting that Mohammed Siraj delivered a record-breaking ball clocked at an astonishing 181.6 km/h.
The moment occurred during the 24th over when Siraj, the right-arm pacer, unleashed his final delivery, which astonishingly registered a record-breaking speed. However, it was later determined that a technical malfunction was responsible for displaying India’s fast bowler delivering a ball at 181.6 km/h.

After electing to bat first, Rohit Sharma-led India managed to post a modest total of 180 in their first innings. Last match’s centurion, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was dismissed on the very first delivery, while star batter Virat Kohli, who had scored an unbeaten century in the previous game, managed just seven runs before being sent back to the pavilion. Captain Rohit Sharma, who selflessly dropped down the batting order to accommodate KL Rahul, was dismissed cheaply for three runs.
Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy provided some resistance with a brisk 42 off 54 balls, featuring three boundaries and three maximums, while KL Rahul contributed a patient 37 off 64 deliveries, including six fours. Australia’s Mitchell Starc emerged as the standout bowler, claiming an impressive six-wicket haul, while skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland chipped in with two wickets each.
India’s pace backbone Jasprit Bumrah provided the team with an early breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja, but the rest of the bowling attack struggled to make an impact. At stumps on Day 1, Australia stood at 86/1, trailing India by 96 runs.
