Mohammad Shami’s Participation in the BGT Uncertain, After Rohit Sharma’s Swollen Knee Revelation

Many questions remain about whether the experienced Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami will travel to Australia for the remaining three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025.

Shami is ready to participate in the quarter-final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday (December 11). The Indian team management will closely monitor his performance and fitness.

Shami has not featured in international cricket since the ODI World Cup last November, where he was exceptional, he took 24 wickets with an average of 10.70. He has also missed several key series, including the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shami recently underwent a fitness test, and based on the statements from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), he is not expected to travel to Australia shortly.

After a disappointing loss against Australia in the second test of BGT, India desperately needs to come back strongly in this series to keep their hopes alive for the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year.

However Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on the fitness of Shami and left all the fans worried as he stated the pacer suffered swelling in his knees while playing for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“We are just monitoring him because while playing (in the) Syed Mushtaq Ali, he again got some swelling in his knee. Obviously (that) hampers his preparation to come and play a Test match. We want to be very, very careful. We don’t want to bring him here in a situation and he plays and then he pulls up sore or something happens. We don’t want to put pressure on him to come here and do the job for the team. So, there are some professionals who are monitoring him,” Rohit told reporters.
