List of Hat-Tricks in Men’s T20 World Cup History
Men’s T20 World Cup has witnessed a number of formidable and fierce bowlers. From Brett Lee to Pat Cummins, T20 has recorded many awesome hattricks in the history of the tournament. Interestingly, both the Aussies have made the hattricks against Bangladesh.
In T20 World Cup 2024, Pat Cummins became the first to make a hattrick in the tournament. Let’s dive into the list of hat-tricks in Men’s T20 World Cup History :
Hat-tricks at the T20 World Cup
Brett Lee (Australia v Bangladesh, Cape Town 2007):
In the 2007 edition of T20 World cup, it was the first Super Eight match. With Bangladesh trying to resist bowling attack by Australia, Brett Lee ruthlessly took out Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, and Alok Kapali to break the safe shield. Lee marks the first-ever T20I hat-trick.
Curtis Campher (Ireland v Netherlands, Abu Dhabi 2021):
After 14 years of long gap, Campher ended the barren run, with an astonishing attack against Netherlands. In four balls, he took four wickets to derail the innings, with Colin Ackermann, Ryan ten Doeschate, Scott Edwards, and Roelof van der Merwe succumbing to fierce attack.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka v South Africa, Sharjah 2021):
Though Hasaranga, took three wickets against South Africa, he still couldn’t make his team win. First he dismissed Aiden Markram, then took out Temba Bavuma and Dwaine Pretorius. South Africa won with one ball to spare. But Hasaranga’s hattrick was a treat to watch.
Kagiso Rabada (South Africa v England, Sharjah 2021):
In a match against England, South Africa needed to defend 14 in the last over. Rabada got Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan, and Chris Jordan with the first three balls, making his team win by 10 runs and claimed the match winning hattrick.
Kartik Meiyappan (UAE v Sri Lanka, Geelong 2022):
The first Hat-trick at the T20 World Cup by a bowler from an Associate Nation, was Meiyappan. The UAE bowler took out Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka making Sri Lanka slip from 117-2 to 117-5. But at the end, Sri Lanka still won easily by 79 runs.
Joshua Little (Ireland v New Zealand, Adelaide 2022):
Ireland’s Joshua Little in the penultimate over dismissed Kane Williamson, Jimmy Neesham, and Mitchell Santner. Little marked the second hattrick of the 2022 tournament after Meiyappan.
Pat Cummins (Australia v Bangladesh, Gros Islet 2024):
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh already had a shaky start before Cummins silenced them with a hat-trick. In the 18th over, Pat Cummins took Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan. Returning in the 20th over, he bowled out Towhid Hridoy. Though rain halted the game twice but Australia won by 28 runs via DLS method.
