England’s Legendary bowler James Anderson registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction just four months after retiring from cricket. Anderson played his last international match on 12th July 2024 at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He took his 704th wicket in that match, making him the first-ever pacer in Test cricket history to bowl 40,000 bowls in a Test career.
Anderson who last played a T20 match in 2014 is ready to make his comeback in the shorter format of the game. He registered his base price of 1.25 Cr which equates to around £114,000. The mega auction of IPL 2025 will be held in Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November in which each team will have INR 120 Cr to build their teams. The fast bowler hasn’t played any game of cricket since July 2024.
“I might be in a bit of denial because I’m well aware I won’t play for England again, but I’ve still not made a decision on my actual cricket career,” Anderson told the Press Association in August.
“There’s definitely a bit of intrigue with the shorter formats because I’ve not played any franchise stuff before. Watching The Hundred this year, seeing the ball swing around, it makes me feel like I could do a job there.”
Anderson has played 19 T20 matches in his career where he took 18 wickets with an average of 30.67, best bowling figures of 3/23 conceding almost 7.85 runs per over. England’s captain Ben Stokes has not registered his name for the mega auction of IPL 2025, he also opted out from the IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness.
