IPL Auction Process and Order
Marquee Players: Starts with two marquee sets.
Capped Players: Categorized as batters, bowlers, wicketkeepers, spinners, and all-rounders.
Uncapped Players: Similar categories follow.
Accelerated Auction: Begins with the 117th player onwards.
What Is an Accelerated Auction?
Not all 500+ players will go under the hammer.
From Player 117 onwards, franchises nominate a list from players 117 to 574.
Post-auction, unsold players may get another chance in a second accelerated round.
The Right-To-Match (RTM) Card Returns in IPL Auction
The RTM card, used in earlier auctions, is back with a new twist:
Teams can bid to reclaim a player from their 2024 squad.
If the previous team matches the winning bid, the bidding team gets one final chance to raise the price further without any limit.
Example: A player sold for ₹5 Cr can see the bid raised to ₹10 Cr, after which the previous team can choose to use RTM at the new price.
Who Can Be Retained with RTM?
Teams can retain up to 6 players using RTM and direct retention.
Only 5 capped players and 2 uncapped players can be retained.
Teams like KKR and RR, which have already retained 6 players, cannot use RTM cards.
