Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan In Line to Return to Pakistan Team For Champions Trophy

Pakistan’s recent results in ICC tournaments haven’t been impressive, but the Men in Green are considered strong contenders for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan will share the group alongside India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.

The defending champions will play their first match on February 19 against New Zealand, followed by a high-stakes match against India on February 23 in Dubai. Their last group game will be against Bangladesh on February 27.

The Pakistan team has performed strongly in recent ODI games, securing wins over Australia and South Africa. Ahead of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan is set to face New Zealand and South Africa in a tri-nation series.

The Pakistan squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but it is expected to be quite similar to the team that recently played in South Africa.

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf are almost certain to be part of the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Saim Ayub is also expected to secure his spot after scoring two centuries in the recent ODIs against South Africa.

Abdullah Shafique might be dropped due to his poor form in the three ODIs, where he was dismissed for a duck in all three matches. Fakhar Zaman will replace him in the team.

Pakistan’s main concern remains their spin bowling department. Although Agha Salman has done well as an all-rounder, relying on him alone for spin bowling might be risky. The team could recall experienced all-rounder Shadab Khan. In the pace attack, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain are expected to join the squad.
