With Australia leading the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1 before the final Test in Sydney, not everything is going smoothly in the Indian dressing room. There is growing pressure on head coach Gautam Gambhir, as the Indian team has struggled with poor results against Sri Lanka (in the ODI series) and New Zealand (in the Test series).
The Indian team is not only close to losing the important Border-Gavaskar series but also at risk of missing out on a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
After suffering an embarrassing defeat in the 4th Test of the BGT at the MCG, Gambhir is reported to have lost his temper with some key Indian players who “did their own thing” in the 4th Test and ended up losing their wickets.
“Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough),” Gambhir told the Indian team after they returned to the dressing room.
The India head coach was said to be frustrated with how some players behaved on the field. Gambhir also reportedly told the team that he had given them six months to play their way, but that time is now over. From now on, any players who don’t follow his plans will be dropped from the team.
The details from the report, however, have left Irfan Pathan, who previously coached the Indian women’s team, disappointed, particularly with one test still to go. “What happens in the dressing room, should stay in the dressing room!” wrote Pathan on ‘X’

This adds to the worries, with reports suggesting that Gambhir wanted Cheteshwar Pujara to play in the BGT 2024-25, but the BCCI selectors were not in agreement with him.
The fifth and last Test of the Border-Gavaskar series will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and will begin on December 3.
