After a lot of twists and turns around the first ICC tournament Pakistan will host since the 1996 ODI World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to announce the schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, PCB stood firm on its decision not to accept the “hybrid model”.
During Asia Cup 2023, PCB accepted the hybrid model proposed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) but this time PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held his ground firmly on the decision. Recently addressing to media he said, “Every other team that has qualified for the Champions Trophy is ready to come. No one has any concern. If India has any concerns, we will talk, and we will ensure that concerns are taken care of. I don’t think there is any reason why India can’t come to Pakistan. Hopefully, all the teams will come, Sports and politics are separate things. I don’t want countries mixing them. We are hoping for the best. ICC will announce the schedule; I am sure they will announce it soon so that we can finalize the preparations. All the questions that we had, we have written to them. We are awaiting a reply, “Pakistan’s respect is first and foremost. Rest, you will see what happens. Our stance is very clear; we have made it clear in the past,” he added.
Amid all the uncertainty, ICC released a new promo video of the Champions Trophy 2025 in which they confirmed Pakistan as the host for the mega event, ICC also launched the Trophy Tour for the Champions Trophy 2025 to intensify the excitement for the tournament. The launch event which started on 16th November featured the world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar and the Trophy was displayed on various landmarks of Pakistan.
