Rahul Dravid winded up his tenure with T20 World Cup final game 2024. Dravid finds himself in a similar situation as in 2007 ICC World Cup. There he was leading the team as the captain and in the T20 World Cup 2024, he is the head coach. He again has a responsibility to lead India to title trophy.

As the curtains close on the T20 World Cup, Gautam Gambhir is mostly set to take the position as Indian cricket team’s head coach after Rahul Dravid.

The speculations about Gambhir taking charge is almost confirmed by BCCI.

Has BCCI confirmed Gautam Gambhir as new head coach ?

Recently interacting with news agency ANI, Roger Binny, the BCCI president said that they have offered the position of a head coach to the experienced player Gautam Gambhir. Roger Binny suggested it would be favorable for the Indian team to have him on board as the head coach,

Gautam Gambhir has got a lot of experience and if he takes the job it’s definitely going to be a good thing for Indian cricket. He is experienced that’s what India needs. India needs a coach who played the game, and he has played in all three formats of the game,” Binny told ANI.

The frontrunner to replace Rahul Dravid, Gambhir lead KKR to the title triumph in IPL 2024. He was also pivotal in team India’s victory of 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

Earlier at an event, when asked by a student, if he is interested to lead India as a head coach. Gautam Gambhir finds no bigger honor than leading the national team,

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as wellhow can it get bigger than that?”

He further emphasized on the role of Indian people to lead India towards title triumph,

“It is not me that will help India win the World Cup, it is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup,”

Also, as per the reports, Gautam Gambhir has put forth some demands to lead India as a head coach. He demands complete charge over the team selection and support staff. Also, if the senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami don’t perform in Champions Trophy 2025, they will be sacked.

A privy source to BCCI had told ANI that BCCI is ready to accept Gambhir’s demands. We most certainly will see Gautam Gambhir as the new mentor of Indian cricket team.
