Australian captain Pat Cummins has suggested that he might miss the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, set for January 29 and February 6, as he gets ready to welcome his second child.
The star pacer, whose wife Becky is set to give birth later this month, has shown his strong desire to be with his family during this special moment. However, Travis Head or Steve Smith may lead the Australian side in the last series of The World Test Championship cycle 2024-25.
Cummins focuses on maintaining a balance between his professional and personal life, particularly after losing his mother last year. At the launch of the Pink Test for the McGrath Foundation, which supports all cancer patients, Cummins talked about how his views have changed.
“In some ways, it really makes you focus in on what I think is important. It’s family, it’s enjoyment, it’s trying to find joy in life and I think that’s been a slight shift in the way I’ve approached playing and touring and it’s just given me that real decluttering mindset.” Cummins said.
“When you go out you just want to play well and of course, there’s going to be pressure but you don’t want to forget that what mum and dad used to say to us every time we went and played as kids, was to go and enjoy it. Try your best, but make sure you enjoy it. I try and remind myself of that every time I go on a tour or play”. he added.
Thinking about the birth of his first child, Albie, Cummins shared that he felt sorry for missing the first few weeks of his son’s life because he was playing in the World Cup.
“I missed a big chunk last time. I want to spend more time at home for this initial period,” he said.
