Mike Tyson Loses on Boxing Return to Jake Paul in First Bout in 19 Years

Youtuber turned boxer, Jake ‘Problem Child’ Paul won the biggest fight of his career, defeating the returning Mike Tyson by unanimous decision at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson was coming into the fight after retiring from the sport 19 years earlier while Paul was arguably in his prime, with a record of 10-1, with his sole defeat coming against Tommy Fury.

Paul made a one-of-a-kind entrance into the ring and was accompanied by his brother Logan Paul and a pet pigeon while Tyson walked into the ring by himself. The crowd made their feelings clear as they booed the ‘Problem Child’ and heavily cheered Tyson leading up to the fight.

Tyson started the fight on the front foot, forcing his opponent to retreat early on. Paul, however, landed some big shots at the end of Round 2 to stun Tyson. However, the 58-year-old did take the first two rounds on the judges’ scorecards.

Tyson’s fatigue began to show in Round 3 as Paul dominated with a precise triple jab that left the legend reeling against the ropes. Paul decisively took the round 10-9, narrowing the score to 29-28 in Tyson’s favor heading into Round 4.

With Tyson’s mobility waning, Paul controlled the pace in Round 4 and evened the score. Early in Round 5, Tyson landed a powerful left hook that stunned Paul, but “The Problem Child” responded with well-placed body shots late in the round to edge ahead 48-47, igniting a passionate reaction from the crowd in support of Tyson.

In the latter stages of the fight, Paul kept on touching Tyson at regular intervals but was unable to land the decisive blow on the legend. As the fight was over, the pair exchanged a light moment, hugging each other before Paul bowed before Tyson, showing his respect to the legend.

All three judges scored the contest in favor of Jake Paul Paul with scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. With this win, Paul improved his record to 11-7 while Tyson suffered the seventh loss of his legendary career (50-7).

“He’s exactly what I thought, one of the greatest to ever do it,” Jake Paul said after the fight.

On the other hand, Tyson didn’t rule out his return to the boxing ring, saying: “I don’t think so,” Tyson said on the broadcast. “Maybe the brother (Logan Paul).”
