Caitlin Clark Breaks Record as Indiana Fever Come from 15 Down to Beat Phoenix Mercury

Caitlin Clark continues to break records as Indiana Fever rally from behind to beat Pheonix Mercury 88-82 in the WNBA.

Mercury had a fast start to the game taking an 8-0 lead with veteran Taurasi dictating the play. That 8-0 lead quickly became 14-2 just four minutes into the game. Clark struggled early on in the game against Copper who was guarding her. The first quarter ended with scores 26-20 to Mercury.

Clark converted the three-point play to cut the lead to 31-30 midway through the second quarter. Pheonix managed to increase their lead again and at halftime, Mercury led 49-38.

Fever came roaring back in the third quarter and brought the lead back within single digits. Fever took their first lead of the day following a three-pointer from Mitchell. The Fever had a near-perfect quarter, but the Mercury crawled back in the final two minutes as the scoreline read 67-64 in favor of Fever.

Mercury started the fourth quarter on a positive note with an 8-0 run. Then Clark came to her own making free throws and rebounds to level the game at 78-78.  Mitchell and Clark made sure Fever took the win guiding them to a 88-82 victory over Mercury.

Caitlin Clark had 15 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds. She also broke the rookie franchise record for assists in a single season. The rookie has made 129 assists in just 20 games.

“It’s amazing to see what Caitlin has done, and the one thing I really love about her is she loves the game,” Taurasi said after the game. “She’s put the work in, and there’s been a lot of things thrown at her, and she keeps getting better every single game. Her future is super bright.”

Aliyah Boston had 17 points and 8 rebounds and NaLyssa Smith had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Fever.

Indiana Fever will play the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday while Phoenix hosts Connecticut on Monday.
