Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has been ruled out from the rest of the season due to a wrist injury suffered during their game against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Reese took to social media and announced the news of her season-ending injury. The 22-year-old also expressed pride in her season’s success with Sky.

“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol. Through it all, I have shown that I belong in this league even when no one else believes. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season-ending injury but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next.” Reese wrote.

“Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. “God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled League, see you soon!” she further quoted.

With this announcement, Reese likely relinquishes her bid for Rookie of the Year to Fever’s Caitlin Clark. However, the 22-year-old is a sure bet for All-Rookie First Team honors.

Angel Reese’s Season Stats at a Glance

Reese helped Sky to a 92-78 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, doing yet another double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. In her breakthrough debut season, Reese amassed 462 points, 446 rebounds and 633 assists. The former LSU star concludes her debut season with an average of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.

She also recorded a whopping 26 double-doubles including most consecutive double-doubles with 15. The rookie enjoyed the most consecutive games with 20+ rebounds with 3. She was also named an All-Star, earned WNBA Rookie of the Month honors in June, and broke Candace Parker’s WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles, along with several other achievements.

Reese’s debut season has had a significant impact not only on her team but the overall growth of the league. Her charismatic presence has adored her fans and made her a role model for young athletes.

Chicago Sky is fighting for the last WNBA playoff spot and is currently tied with Atlanta for eighth place. The Sky will host Dallas on Sunday. Despite Reese’s absence on the court, she will be present to cheer for her side from the sidelines.
