“Absolutely No Sense”: LeBron James Demands NBA to Change One Rule
Lebron James was quick to share his thoughts on one NBA rule after Dallas Mavericks played Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 on Western Conference League finals.
After the season is over, the rules are often revisited by NBA to make sure the shortcomings, if any, are addressed before the start of next season. The rule which James wants NBA to revisit is the coach’s challenge rule.
As per current rules, a coach is allowed to make one challenge during a match and if the challenge is successful, he is eligible for another one. This is were the problem arose when Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made two successful challenges during the game but was not able to make another one during the closing stages of the contest after a decision went against them.
The four time NBA champion wants NBA to revisit their rule regarding the coach’s challenge. “Have to change that challenge rule!” James wrote on X. “No way you have 2 successful challenges and can’t anymore for the rest of the game! Makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.”
As expected Lebron’s comments were quick to gather attention generating 30,000+ likes which would fuel this conversation and help to maintain a sound rule structure in NBA.
At the end of last season, NBA commissioner Adam Silver modified the NBA’s challenge rule by providing a second challenge to teams that get their first challenge correct. But, if a team challenged referee’s call for the second time and got it right, no additional challenge was granted.
Lebron James’ LA future in doubt after playoff exit
After playoff defeat at the hands of Nuggets, Lebron James was the main headline as the 39-year-old has a huge call to make regarding his NBA future.
Just a day after Lakers’ season ended, Lebron took to ‘X’ regarding his future “I’ve seen, heard a lot of reports about my future. I said it last night and I’ll say it again. I do not know yet as I’m only thinking about spending time with my family & friends! When I know after speaking with the fam, my counsel as well as my representation about it then you guys will know,” he added.
It will be safe to say that Lebron is not short of options in his future. He can extend his stay by one year with a player option worth over $50 million with Lakers or can re-sign a new contract with Lakers. James also has an option of joining a new team as a free agent.
Lebron has until 29 June to make a decision regarding his future and according to several reports, LA Lakers are keen on retaining him in their side.
