Pep Guardiola has not dismissed the possibility of talks with the FA about the England managerial role, as he continues to weigh in on his future.

Guardiola’s future remains uncertain after he revealed in a recent TV appearance that he has not yet decided on his next steps. Although his contract with Manchester City runs until the summer, the Premier League champions are eager to retain him. Meanwhile, several interested parties, including the English FA, have already inquired about his availability, reaching out at the beginning of the season.

The Telegraph reports that Guardiola is open to discussions with the FA regarding the role of England. He has previously expressed a desire to manage at a World Cup and is said to be fond of England and its current squad. However, England is just one of three national teams that have reached out to the Catalan coach, as the competition to lure him.

“It’s not true, I can promise you that had I made a decision on whether to stay or to leave (Manchester City), I would tell you,” Guardiola said while speaking to the Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa. “I don’t even know. But anything can happen in life.”

Interim boss Lee Carsley hasn’t dismissed the possibility of staying on, but it appears the FA is exploring other options. Carsley is expected to return to his role as England U21 coach once a permanent manager is appointed. However, if the FA selects a coach who is currently employed, Carsley could remain in charge until the new manager becomes available.

Newcastle’s Eddie Howe is another contender on the FA’s shortlist, though Guardiola would likely be the fans’ preferred choice despite several challenges to securing his appointment. The FA has been searching for a successor since Gareth Southgate’s departure after the Euros in July and expects a response from Guardiola in the coming weeks.

Manchester City is eager to keep him, and Guardiola may consider taking a break after nine years in charge by next summer. However, securing Guardiola remains an ambitious goal, with significant doubts about its practicality. Meanwhile, Carsley continues as interim manager, but his prospects for the permanent role were diminished following a recent defeat to Greece in the UEFA Nations League.

The FA is expected to make a decision between the November international break and the new year, ensuring enough time to appoint a new manager if needed.
