Ravindra Jadeja’s 77 from 123 balls and a determined partnership between Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah helped India prevent the follow-on against Australia on a rain-affected Day 4 of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

The visitors are still behind by 193 runs in response to Australia’s first innings massive total of 445. With KL Rahul departing after a brave 84, the responsibility fell on Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy to take India to 246.

However, neither Jadeja nor Reddy could manage to get the job done for India. It was the unbroken 39-run partnership between Akash Deep and Bumrah that eventually helped India surpass the 246-run target to avoid follow-on.

India’s top order once again fails to impress as Indian young talent  Yashasvi Jaiswal departs on the second ball of the innings, the wickets continued to tumble as Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli both fell cheaply.

India had already lost four wickets when play resumed on Tuesday, and the captain was expected to step up. However, he was dismissed in the same manner as Virat Kohli the previous day.

As the match moves into Day 5, India’s chances of saving a draw depend on their lower-order batsmen’s ability to extend their innings and challenge Australia’s dominant lead. The hosts, on the other hand, will look to exploit their advantageous position and strive for a series-winning triumph.
