USMNT will kick off their Copa America 2024 campaign against Bolivia on 23 June at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This will be USMNT’s first Copa America appearance since 2016 when they were invited as one of the guest teams.
This year they secured a berth as one of the League A quarter-final winners, following a 4–2 aggregate win against Trinidad and Tobago.
Let us take a look at three USMNT players to watch out for against Bolivia.
1. Antonee Robinson
Antonee Robinson will be a key figure in the USMNT backline given his pace and attacking ability down the left-hand flank. USNMT has a number of absentees in the back line with Sergino Dest set to miss out with an injured knee.
This makes the Fulham left-back an important player if USMNT want to progress to the latter stages of the competition.
The 26-year-old remained optimistic about USMNT Copa’s chances on their own soil and urged his team to go all the way in the competition.
“Hosting it as well is going to be amazing. I don’t see why we can’t go and win the thing. I have got a lot of confidence in our team, we have got a really talented squad, so we are going to go there with full confidence to try and bring another trophy home.”, Robinson said.
2. Tim Weah
Tim Weah plays his club football at Juventus as a winger and will be a key figure for USMNT this summer. Weah is known to take on players one-on-one and his crossing ability is widely appreciated across Italy.
Despite having an up-and-down start season with Juventus, Weah played an important role in Juventus’ last few weeks which was a good reminder of what he can offer to the USMNT this summer.
A strong Copa America 2024 will add to his already building reputation and add more evidence to his case as he fights for a bigger Juve role in 2024-25.
3. Weston McKennie
Weston McKennie also plays his club football for Serie A giants Juventus. The midfielder underperformed for his club this season failing to score a goal at ‘The Old Lady’. Despite a disappointing club season, McKennie still would be an important asset for USMNT this year.
The 25-year-old has formed a very good partnership with Tyler Adams in the midfield.
If the Juve star can find his form in the middle of the pitch, there is no reason why the hosts cannot progress into the latter stages of the competition.
