Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Start Potentially Delayed, Here’s Why

Ruben Amorim faces an early hurdle as Manchester United’s new head coach. After overseeing Sporting CP’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Braga in his final game, the 39-year-old is set to arrive in Manchester on Monday to start his role.

Amorim will need to secure his visa before leading his initial training session, though Manchester United remains optimistic about a swift processing time. According to the Manchester Evening News, any delay shouldn’t pose significant issues, as Amorim’s first full session with the squad isn’t scheduled until players return from international duty.

Given the situation, Amorim won’t be able to start his work in Manchester on the planned date. Until his clearance is processed, the 39-year-old will be unable to take on official responsibilities, including conducting training sessions with the squad he is set to lead.

Although Amorim will be without key players such as Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez at the start, he will still have several important figures available, including Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Antony, Casemiro, and Amad, who will likely be among the first to work with him.

Leny Yoro, fresh off his injury comeback, along with Luke Shaw, could also be among those to greet Amorim at Carrington. After United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City, Fernandes shared his thoughts on what Ruud van Nistelrooy’s training sessions have been like since stepping in as interim manager.

“He understood that the momentum of the players is not great, The mood was down, the confidence was down, so everything he did every day in training, it was trying to bring joy to the training,” Fernandes said.

“You know, like trying to bring smiles, trying to be involved, tried to make everyone enjoy it and make it look a little bit loose – the training. And he brought a lot of energy from that, you know, he brought people fighting, training, running, trying duels and lots of small games, competitions and that.”

United have been operating under the guidance of interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has steered the team to an unbeaten four-game streak across the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Europa League, with the Red Devils currently in 13th place in the Premier League standings.

Amorim is set to make his managerial debut on Sunday, November 24, when United face Ipswich Town away at Portman Road. His first match at Old Trafford will come shortly after, in a Europa League group-stage clash against FK Bodø/Glimt.
