Barcelona’s prolific striker Robert Lewandowski stands on the verge of UEFA Champions League history, with the chance to join the exclusive ranks of goalscoring icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

With 99 goals in the UEFA Champions League, Lewandowski stands just one goal shy of joining Messi and Ronaldo in the prestigious “100 Club.” The Polish striker has the opportunity to achieve this milestone on Wednesday, November 26, in Barcelona’s clash with Brest, adding another highlight to his illustrious career. Since joining Bayern Munich in 2022, the striker has quickly established himself as a key figure for the Catalan giants.

Messi, with 129 goals, and Ronaldo, holding the all-time record at 140, are the only players to have reached this milestone in Champions League history. With both now playing outside Europe, Lewandowski is on the verge of joining their elite ranks.

Lewandowski’s Champions League career has seen him excel across three clubs: netting 17 goals in 28 games for Borussia Dortmund, an impressive 69 in 78 matches at Bayern Munich, where he also claimed the title, and adding 11 goals in 17 outings with Barcelona. His next landmark goal could come at an opportune moment, with Barcelona heading into Tuesday’s clash on the back of a 5-2 triumph over Red Star Belgrade, a match where Lewandowski scored a brace.

Last season, Lewandowski spearheaded Barcelona to a La Liga title with an outstanding 33 goals in his debut campaign. This season, under the guidance of manager Hansi Flick, the 36-year-old has rediscovered his brilliance, tallying 17 goals in 15 appearances—14 in La Liga and three in the Champions League.

Barcelona look to bounce back against Brest after a disappointing set of results

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick urged his team to eliminate costly errors ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against French side Brest. The Spanish league leaders are aiming to recover from a loss to Real Sociedad and a draw with Celta Vigo in their last two matches.

After surrendering a two-goal lead late against Celta on Saturday, Flick emphasized the need for his young squad, who have already claimed wins over Bayern Munich in Europe and Real Madrid in La Liga, to take the next step in their development.

“It’s about eliminating the mistakes; that’s important,” Flick told a news conference on Monday. “We have a lot of things to do better with the ball and that’s the focus.”

Barcelona currently sits sixth in the Champions League standings with three wins and one loss from four matches, while Tuesday’s visitors, Brest, occupy fourth place with a one-point advantage despite being positioned 12th in Ligue 1.
