Paul Pogba to Manchester City? Premier League Champions Considering Shock Move

Manchester City are considering a surprise move for free agent Paul Pogba as they aim to strengthen their midfield. Pogba is set to make his comeback in 2025 once his 18-month ban ends in March. Currently, a free agent after Juventus terminated his contract, the Frenchman has been at the center of transfer rumors, with the Independent reporting that the Premier League champions are eyeing a potential move.

Pogba faces a ban after testing positive for DHEA, a prohibited substance that enhances natural testosterone levels, following Juventus’ 2023-24 season opener against Udinese on August 20. However, after a successful appeal, his ban was reduced from 4 years to 18 months.

Amid a challenging 2024/25 season, Manchester City are seeking to strengthen their squad. With Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder Rodri sidelined due to an ACL rupture earlier this season, City may explore options to find a replacement for their key Spanish player. Despite speculation, City have denied any interest in signing Pogba.

The recruitment process in January could be further complicated by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Premier League hearing, which wrapped up last week, with a decision expected in February. While City maintain their innocence, if found guilty of the most severe charges, they could face expulsion or a points deduction.

The report also suggests that Pogba may be hesitant to return to the Premier League, particularly to Manchester City, due to his previous experience with their rivals, Manchester United.

Pogba has no shortage of admirers and various clubs are keeping an eye on his situation. One potential destination for Pogba could be Inter Miami, the club where Lionel Messi currently plays. Notably, the former Manchester United star was spotted attending an Inter Miami match recently, fueling speculation.

The Saudi Pro League is another possible destination for the former Juve man, having emerged as a prime choice for top-tier players seeking new challenges. Clubs like Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ittihad have attracted big names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar with lucrative offers, and considering Pogba’s reputation and fanbase, a switch to Saudi Arabia could provide both a great opportunity and a fresh start in a different environment.
