Marcus Rashford has revealed he is “prepared for a new chapter” as speculation surrounding his potential exit from Manchester United intensifies.
Reports earlier this month suggested the academy graduate has been listed for transfer, with a valuation of £40 million expected to secure a deal. The uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future deepened following new head coach Ruben Amorim’s decision to omit him from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby. Despite this, Amorim emphasized that both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho still had opportunities to regain their places.
In a recent interview with Henry Winter, Rashford acknowledged that he is open to leaving United and seeking a new challenge. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said.
“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
Despite being dropped for the derby, Rashford tried to stay positive, sharing his support for the team’s victory on social media. However, he admitted that Amorim’s decision was a difficult one to accept. Having joined Manchester United at the age of seven and making his first-team debut at 18 under Louis van Gaal, the 27-year-old Rashford now feels it’s time for a fresh start after nearly a decade at the club.
Rashford, who signed a lucrative £325,000-a-week, 4½-year contract extension with United in July 2023, would fetch a substantial transfer fee if the club were to entertain offers in the January window. However, sources have informed ESPN that there is currently little interest from European clubs, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as the most probable destination for the forward in the near future.
He also emphasized that the possibility of returning to the England squad under new manager Thomas Tuchel “still excites” him, following his exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s team for this summer’s European Championship in Germany, where England was defeated by Spain in the final.
United will face Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals, with the match set to take place in north London.
