Milan Win in Madrid, Sporting Thrash Manchester City and Liverpool Stay Top: Champions League Recap
On an electrifying night of Champions League football, AC Milan pulled off an impressive win in Madrid, Sporting Lisbon stunned Manchester City with a dominant performance, and Liverpool solidified their place at the top of the Champions League with a win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Let us take a look at the results in detail.
Real Madrid 1-3 AC Milan
Defending champions Real Madrid endured a 3-1 home defeat to AC Milan in Tuesday’s Champions League clash, marking their second loss in just four games this campaign. Vinicius Junior briefly equalized after Malick Thiaw’s opener, but Milan regained control as ex-Madrid striker Alvaro Morata put them back in front, followed by a third goal from Tijjani Reijnders to seal the victory.
Real Madrid has now suffered back-to-back losses, following a 4-0 defeat to rivals Barcelona in El Clasico, leaving them nine points adrift in La Liga. Ancelotti’s defending European champions also find themselves with just six points from four Champions League matches after their October loss to Lille.
Sporting 4-1 Man City
Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim watched as his Sporting side delivered a remarkable second-half turnaround, defeating Premier League champions Manchester City 4-1, led by a Viktor Gyokeres hat-trick. In a high-pressure match for the hosts and their departing coach, City faced further scrutiny after suffering their third consecutive loss, following previous defeats against Tottenham and Bournemouth.
Sporting climbed to second place in the Champions League standings, just behind Liverpool, maintaining their undefeated run this season. Meanwhile, City dropped to sixth after suffering their first loss in the tournament.
Liverpool 4-0 Leverkusen
Xabi Alonso reflected on a bittersweet homecoming at Anfield as Liverpool cruised to a 4-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. Luis Diaz netted a hat-trick, propelling the Reds to the top of their Champions League group, while Cody Gakpo added a goal to secure Liverpool’s flawless run in Europe after four games.
With 12 points collected, Liverpool are virtually guaranteed a spot in the knockout stages and are now edging closer to securing a direct route to the last 16 by aiming for a top-eight finish in the 36-team league.
PSV 4-0 Girona
In a commanding Champions League performance, PSV overpowered Girona with a 4-0 triumph on Tuesday night at the PSV Stadium. Dutch midfielder Ryan Flamingo ignited the scoring in the 16th minute with a precise strike, thrilling the home supporters. Seventeen minutes later, German midfielder Malik Tillman added to the tally, delivering a sharp finish in the 33rd minute that left Girona on the back foot.
The game took a dramatic turn early in the second half when Girona’s Arnau Martinez received a red card in the 55th minute, reducing the visitors to ten players and deepening their struggles. Taking advantage of the situation, Belgian forward Johan Bakayoko added a third for PSV with a composed finish. Near the end, Girona’s troubles worsened when Czech defender Ladislav Krejci scored an own goal, sealing the 4-0 victory for the hosts.
Celtic 3-1 RB Leipzig

Meanwhile, Leipzig’s struggles persist, with the German side still searching for their first point in the competition, and their hopes of advancing to the knockout rounds growing slimmer after four consecutive losses.
LOSC 1-1 Juventus
Lille demonstrated resilience as they held Juventus to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, continuing their strong run in the Champions League group stage. Jonathan David gave the French side a first-half lead, but Dusan Vlahovic equalized with a second-half penalty. Both teams now sit on seven points from four games.
Despite being under constant pressure, Lille’s goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier delivered another outstanding performance, helping secure a valuable point for Bruno Genesio’s side, who had already defeated Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in previous fixtures.
Bologna 0-1 Monaco
Thilo Kehrer’s late goal handed Monaco a 1-0 win over Bologna in the Champions League on Tuesday, with the defender scoring in the 86th minute. Kehrer, left unmarked at the far post, connected with a flicked-on corner to seal the victory for Monaco. This result not only kept Monaco’s unbeaten record intact in this year’s Champions League but also handed Bologna their first-ever home loss in European competition.
Both teams had goals ruled out in the first half: Monaco’s Wilfried Singo was penalized for a foul on Bologna’s goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, while Santiago Castro’s impressive curling effort was disallowed due to a foul earlier in the play.
Dortmund 1-0 SK Sturm Graz
Donyell Malen netted a crucial 85th-minute goal to give Borussia Dortmund a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sturm Graz in the Champions League, their third win in four matches, propelling them into fourth place in the newly expanded 36-team league.
The win allows Dortmund, last season’s finalists, to recover from their 5-2 defeat to reigning champions Real Madrid, as they prepare for their upcoming match against Dinamo Zagreb on November 27. Graz have lost all four of their opening matches and are reeling at the bottom of the table.
ŠK Slovan Bratislava 1-4 GNK Dinamo Zagreb
Dinamo Zagreb bounced back from an early setback to secure a dominant 4-1 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Tuesday after David Strelec gave the hosts a brief lead just five minutes in. Dario Spikic responded with an equalizer just five minutes later, and Petar Sucic put Dinamo ahead with a goal in the 30th minute. The visitors continued their dominance in the second half, as Sandro Kulenovic scored twice, once in the 54th and again in the 72nd minute.
The result left Bratislava still searching for their first point after four matches, while Dinamo comfortably sat in the playoff spots with seven points from four games.
